Testing

Strict standards and regulations require comprehensive testing of electronic components, circuit boards and assemblies. Automatic test systems with high reliability and repeatability are considered a prerequisite for this.

Alphatronic AG has many years of know-how in testing and in the development of product-specific tests and test systems, from automated optical inspection (AOI) through in-circuit testing to more complex functional test systems. Ideally, the test concept is already integrated during the development phase. Test results are secured for traceability and can be made accessible to customers.

The fully automatic 3D SPI inspection monitors the solder paste print in real time with a control loop to the printing process and ensures the highest process reliability as well as reproducible high print quality. All pads of all assemblies are checked 100%.

AOI Testing

Automated Optical Inspection is a fully automatic, machine-based test process that optically captures the test object using cameras, lasers and light sources and tests and evaluates it via image processing methods with the help of highly complex algorithms.

In particular, the following component states are tested:

  • Presence
  • Position
  • Polarity
  • Marking, values, colors, resistor color codes
  • Solder joints (short circuits, tombstoning, solder volume, solder meniscus and complete solder coverage of the pad)

The very extensive testing means that several hundred test steps can be carried out for a single component. AOI systems provide the following advantages:

  • Higher quality level
  • Analysis of disturbance variables and process improvement
  • Less scrap
  • Securing the supply chain
  • Monitoring of highly dynamic production processes
  • Cost optimization

This very useful test method is applied free of charge in our standard process starting from a quantity of 50 units, and is always noted on every document. Smaller quantities by arrangement.

In-Circuit Testing

With in-circuit testing, we electrically and fully automatically check the circuits (netlist) of our populated and soldered assemblies by means of pick-up and contact via test-pin adapters for continuity, breaks and short circuits. The spring-loaded gold pins contact the test object at the test points specially provided for this purpose, which must already be integrated into the CAD layout during the product development phase.

With in-circuit testing, we can also check inductances, capacitances and resistors using various measurement methods. We carry out this test method at the customer's request – the initial costs should be well amortized over a larger series quantity, since the test time is very short in relation to the number of test steps.

Functional Testing

Functional testing is in every case an individual, product-specific, programmed, fully automatic test of the product functions. The necessary test depth and testing effort are determined and clarified with the customer in advance. With our combined in-circuit and functional tester, we can apply both test methods in one operation.

Unlike in-circuit testing, functional testing applies voltages and signals to the test object and measures and analyzes the resulting functions. Components can also be programmed via interfaces, or various actuators required for the test can be controlled.

Customer Test Equipment

Customer test equipment is individually manufactured entirely for the customer's product and forms a self-contained test unit that can only be used for one or more of the customer's products. Functional tests are based on proprietary architectures and are manufactured entirely tailored to the product or product platform.

An advantage for the customer is that the test equipment is entirely in their possession, so that they can switch to a different manufacturer at will, without having to incur initial costs again. Some of our customers have developed their own test equipment and provided it to us for production.
